Vaccine Efficacy
Please note that the following are personal notes from my readings. None of it should be viewed as medical advice. Please always consult with your physicians to determine what decisions are best for you and your family.
Vaccine efficacy varies, but in general most vaccines are about 85 to 95 percent effective in preventing disease. Some vaccine opponents use this fact to argue against vaccination. But even though they aren’t perfect, vaccines still offer very good protection. If a roomful of a hundred vaccinated kids is exposed to a disease, only about ten of the kids will catch that illness. Compare that to a roomful of unvaccinated kids. Most of them will come down with the disease and spread it to other kids. An added perk for vaccinated kids is that any disease they do catch will likely run a milder course.
