Vaccine Side Effects
Based on what I have read so far about vaccines, I realize that the debate about the safety of vaccines will continue for a while because we do not have good enough data. For example, according to What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Children’s Vaccinations (page xviii), doctors report less than 10% of the adverse events associated with vaccines and / or occurring following vaccinations to the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS), charged with accumulating and tabulating these vaccine adverse events.

Standard Side Effects of Vaccines
All of the below is from “The Vaccine Book” by Dr. Robert Sears (October 2007; pages 180 – 181), which provides much more detail. Some sections are paraphrased and some are not.
There are some common reactions that can occur with virtually every vaccine. I call them “standard side effects” because they typically occur about 5 to 10 percent of the time for most shots. Some vaccines cause these reactions as much as 40% of the time. Fortunately, these side effects are usually harmless in the long run, and even in the short run. They include, but are not limited to:
- Pain, redness, and swelling at the injection site
- Fever
- Crying
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Poor appetite
- Sleepiness
- Headaches
- Body aches
- Pea-size nodule at injection site lasting for several weeks
- Rash over the whole body or limited to one area
