Vaccine Ingredients
Please note that the following are personal notes from my readings. None of it should be viewed as medical advice. Please always consult with your physicians to determine what decisions are best for you and your family.

All of the below is from “The Vaccine Book” by Dr. Robert Sears (October 2007; pages 191 – 211), which provides much more detail. Some sections are copied verbatim, paraphrased or summarized.
Having never thought about the vaccine ingredients before, I realized after reading The Vaccine Book that the list of ingredients below is one to consider as I evaluate my children’s vaccinations.
- Animal and human tissues. Click on Animal and Human Tissues for my notes.
- Aluminum. Click on Aluminum for my notes.
- Mercury. Click on Mercury for my notes.
- Formaldehyde. The amount in each vaccine is miniscule.
- Polysorbate 80 and 20. They have been tested and are generally regarded as safe.
- MSG. Some studies show that MSG is considered an excitotoxin (a chemical that can affect how the brain functions) and that when consumed in large quantities or injected into the brains of animals it can damage nerve tissue in a pattern similar to Alzheimer’s disease. Because of such concerns, MSG has been removed from many products, including baby food. Fortunately, the amount of MSG in vaccines is about half a milligram. The amount consumed in a serving of Chinese food is between 1000 and 10,000 milligrams.
- EDTA. The tiny amount in some vaccines is negligible and considered harmless.
- 2-Phenoxyethanol. The amount in vaccines is miniscule.
- Sodium borate. It is considered harmless.
- Octoxynol. The tiny amount in some vaccines is considered harmless.
- Sodium deoxycholate. The amount in vaccines is miniscule.
Fortunately, all of these chemicals, even the toxic ones, are used in very tiny amounts in vaccines. Our bodies should be able to handle them. It would be more reassuring, however, if we had better studies on precise toxicology in human infants. Anyone want to volunteer your baby? Very cautious parents may choose to get fewer vaccines at a time in order to spread out exposure to chemicals.
